You know someone is on a good track on American Idol when you like their version of the song they are performing significantly better than the original. In the opening segments of his performance of "Lips of an Angel," Lee DeWyze delivered the anguished emotion of the song's lyrics in a way not matched by the Hinder original. As pointed out by the judges, there were some pitch problems, but it was the talent for interpreting the song which made Lee DeWyze stand out from the crowd this week. His voice is a stellar, commercial pop-rock sound that could be around for many weeks to come as the season unfolds.

The prize for most improved over last week, in a crowd of significant improvements, must surely go to Alex Lambert. Last week his nerves seemed so intense that it was actually painful to watch him perform. This week with the nervousness seemingly under control, it was much easier to concentrate on his voice delivering John Legend's "Everybody Knows." It is a quite impressive voice and quite possibly the most unique on the male side of the competition.

Who should go when the results roll around on Thursday? My picks are John Park, who, while improving, still fails to generate excitement from the audience. I would also say goodbye to Todrick Hall. He demonstrated vocal gymnastics, but his sense of "What's Love Got To Do With It" as a song just seemed all wrong.
