Paramore Are Surprise Winners at the NME Awards

<p>As expected from the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://top40.about.com/b/2010/01/26/british-rock-dominates-nme-awards-nominations.htm">list of nominees</a>, rock bands dominated most categories at yesterday's <i>NME</i> Awards in the UK. The bands Kasabian and Muse each won two awards. The big surprise of the night came with the announcement of the winner in the International Band category. Franklin, Tennessee's <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://top40.about.com/od/p/p/paramore.htm">Paramore</a> took the trophy among more seasoned competition like <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://top40.about.com/od/artistsdk/p/greenday.htm">Green Day</a> and Kings of Leon. The awards overall were dominated by men with women winning few despite <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://top40.about.com/od/l/p/ladygaga.htm">Lady Gaga's</a> recent dominance at the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://top40.about.com/b/2010/02/16/lady-gaga-dominates-brit-awards-winning-three-international-accolades.htm">Brit Awards</a> and <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://top40.about.com/od/artistsac/p/beyonce.htm">Beyonce</a> and Taylor Swift coming out on top at the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://top40.about.com/od/awards/a/grammynoms2010.htm">Grammy Awards</a>.
