iTunes Sells 10 Billion Songs

<p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.itunes.com">iTunes</a> was launched by Apple, Inc. in January, 2001. The iTunes store which allowed music fans to purchase and download songs opened in April, 2003. By August 2009 iTunes controlled 25% of the overall music marketplace making it the top music retailer in the US. That includes a full 69% of digital downloads. Today Apple announced that iTunes has sold its 10 billionth song. The purchaser of that song will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card. Coincidentally, this is also Apple exec Steve Jobs' 55th birthday. The iTunes revenue continues to grow quarter after quarter reaching $520 million in the last quarter.
