4 November 2009

FIORENTINA 5 (Mutu 14, Dainelli 52, Montolivo 59, Marchionni 61, Gilardino 74)
DEBRECEN 2 (Rudolf 38, Coulibaly 70)

Mutu head in a Marchionni cross but Rudolf levelled when Kroldrup went to sleep on a cross. A second half flurry buried the Hungarians. Dainelli headed the home side back in front after Debrecen goalkeeper Pantic made a feeble jump for a cross. Montolivo arrived unmarked at the back post to volley in a cross intended for Mutu and Marchionni finished off a superb one touch passing move. Fiorentina were again punished for taking their eye off the ball but Gilardino ensured there would be no repeat of the first leg insanity when he headed in a Vargas free kick.

A win for Fiorentina at home to Lyon takes them into the last 16. A draw is enough if Liverpool fail to beat Debrecen.
Attendance : 39,000
LYON 1 (Lisandro 90)
LIVERPOOL 1 (Babel 83)

Liverpool outplayed a desperately disappointing Lyon on their own pitch but had to wait until the 83rd minute to take the lead when substitute Babel hit an absolute crackerjack of a right foot shot past Lloris. In the last minute of normal time Liverpool failed to deal with a bouncing ball and Lisandro pushed away Cris to equalise.

If Fiorentina beat Lyon Liverpool are out otherwise Liverpool need six points and to beat Fiorentina by more than two clear goals at Anfield.
DYNAMO KYIV 1 (Shevchenko 21)
INTER 2 (Milito 86, Sneijder 89)

Shevchenko rolled back the years to score his 15th career goal against Inter. He controlled a ball on his chest before sending a dipping left foot half volley over Julio Cesar. Dynamo failed to get tight on Milito and he punished them with a precise low drive which wrong footed Bogush. Bogush spilled from Muntari, saved from Milito on the follow-up but was finally beaten by Sneijder whose goal sends Inter top of a very tight group.
SEVILLA 1 (Navas 14)
STUTTGART 1 (Kuzmanovic 79)

Navas tapped in Sevilla's 10th goal of the campaign from Luis Fabiano's centre. Kuzmanovic's brilliant late strike wasn't enough to prevent the Spaniards from claiming a place in the KO stages.

Attendance : 43,200
Assists : Luis Fabiano, Pogrebnyak

UNIREA URZICENI 1 (Onofras 88)
RANGERS 1 (McCulloch 79)

Rangers would have felt at home in the rainy conditions. McCulloch caught Unirea goalkeeper Arlauskis by surprise with a bouncing shot. Onofras, who had earlier seen a goalbound effort cleared off the line, equalised with a brilliant shot from distance.
Attendance : 15,000
Assists : Lafferty, Bilasco

ARSENAL 4 (Fabregas 26, Nasri 43, Fabregas 52, Diaby 72)
AZ ALKMAAR 1 (Lens 82)

Romero was beaten at his near post by a tame Fabregas effort. Arshavin played in the injury prone Nasri for the second, an excellent dummy took out his marker leaving him to pick his spot. Arsenal countered after the Dutch Champions lost possession from a throw-in, Fabregas finished Arshavin's pass emphatically. Diaby completed the rout for the flat track bullies following another counter attack. Lens beat a poorly positioned Almunia to score a consolation goal.

Arsenal are through (more or less) to the last 16 where they will finally face some decent opposition because they can't draw whichever Mickey Mouse team finishes behind them in second place. This group has been an absolute f*cking joke.
Attendance : 59,345
Gourcuff lost Van Bommel to head in a Wendel free kick. Chamakh completed a smash and grab victory after Toni and Robben missed great chances. Chamakh chased down a longball out of defence, Butt ran miles out of his box, Chamakh touched the ball past him and tapped into an empty net.
BESIKTAS 0
WOLFSBURG 3 (Misimovic 14, Gentner 80, Dzeko 87)

The Besiktas defence backed off as Misimovic ran forward then caught Arkan by surprise with an early left foot shot. More shocking defender gave Dzeko a clear run on goal, Alican stood firm to block but Gentner was allowed to gather the rebound and scored via a deflection. Besiktas' defence bailed on their goalkeeper for a second time and this time Dzeko made no mistake.
MANCHESTER UNITED 3 (Owen 29, Scholes 84, Shennikov 92 og)
CSKA MOSCOW 3 (Dzagoev 25, Krasic 31, Berezutski 47)

Necid chested down a cross releasing teen sensation Dzagoev, Evans managed to forced him wide but he scored nonetheless with an extraordinary left foot shot. Owen turned onto a deflected pass to equalise. Krasic capitalised on a poorly played offside trap to restore CSKA's lead. United's defensive deficiencies were once against exposed when Berezutski headed in a free kick at the back post. Scholes headed in a Neville free kick and a late own goal denied Europe the pleasure of a Manchester United loss.

Attendance : 73,718
Red Card : Semberas 95 (CKSA Moscow)
MILAN 1 (Ronaldinho 35 Pen)
REAL MADRID 1 (Benzema 29)

Benzema tapped Real Madrid into the lead after Dida failed to hold a Kaka' effort. Ronaldinho almost ripped a hole in the net when converting a penalty awarded for handball. For the second successive game Milan had a goal disallowed for nothing. At one stage in a disappointing second half three players who have scored 150 Champions League goals between them - Inzaghi, Raul and RVN were on the pitch. Inzaghi shanked a Pato centre yards from goal while Raul drew a great save from Dida.

Both teams put on a clinic of tackling in the first half especially.
MARSEILLE 6 (Aegerter 3 og, Abriel 11, Niang 51, Hilton 80, Cheyrou 87, Brandao 90)
ZURICH 1 (Alphonse 31)

Alphonse headed a free kick past his own goalkeeper. 8 minutes later Abriel stood over another free kick and this time it bounced unopposed into the Zurich net. Alphonse finished off a great passing move with a brilliant shot on the turn. Niang played a one-two with Kone on the edge of the box, held off a defender and lobbed over Leoni. A flurry of late goals turned this into a rout. Hilton banged in #4 after Zurich once again failed to defend a free kick. Cheyrou scored the pick of the goals with a stunning 25 yard drive and man mountain Brandao tapped in Niang's centre to complete Zurich's misery.
CHELSEA 2 (Drogba 82, Drogba 88)

Chelsea's achilles heel, John Terry, got no distance on a clearing header and Aguero hammered a right volley past Cech. Drogba marked his return from a four game ban with a late brace. The first a header from a Malouda cross. Ashley Cole released Drogba on the counter and he powered through to score at the second attempt after Asenjo saved his initial effort. Cech, Chelsea's other achilles heel, failed to save an Aguero free kick struck at mid-height but it didn't matter as a point was enough to send Chelsea into the last 16.
Attendance : 45,000
Assists : n/a, Malouda, n/a, Aguero (won fk)
