15 September 2009

JUVENTUS 1 (Iaquinta 63)
BORDEAUX 1 (Plasil 75)

Juve played Bordeaux off the park but had to settle for a point thanks largely to poor finishing with Iaquinta the chief culprit, even if he did eventually score. Plasil punished terrible marking to equalise from a free kick.
Attendance : 30,000
Assists : Cannavaro, Fernando

MACCABI HAIFA 0
BAYERN MUNICH 3 (Van Buyten 64, Muller 85, Muller 88)

Van Buyten smashed home a loose ball inside a packed penalty area. Muller made it 2-0 with a deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area and ran across a static and probably demoralised Maccabi defence to convert Gomez' centre for the third.
Attendance : 36,500
Assists : n/a, n/a, Gomez
ZURICH 2 (Margairaz 64 Pen, Aegerter 65)
REAL MADRID 5 (Ronaldo 27 fk, Raul 34, Higuain 46, Ronaldo 89 fk, Guti 94)

Ronaldo's stunning free kick began a late first half flurry of goals. His towering header helped set up Real's second, Higuain centred for Raul to slide in his 67th European goal. Raul brilliantly laid off a Xabi Alonso ball inside a defender to the youngster who muscled his way past Zurich's captain before angling his shot wide of the 'keeper. Margairaz pulled a goal back thanks to a dubious penalty decision and a minute later the Swiss were suddenly back in the game after Aegerter beat Casillas with a superb near post header. Ronaldo's 35 yard free kick went straight through the hands of the Zurich goalkeeper and Guti added a fifth with a delicious lob on the counter.

Attendance : 24,000
Assists : Ronaldo (won fk), Higuain, Raul, Alphonse (won pen), Vonlanthen (ck), Guti (won fk), Kaka'

MARSEILLE 1 (Heinze 49)
MILAN 2 (Inzaghi 28, Inzaghi 74)

A glorious pass from Seedorf found Inzaghi unmarked at the back post and he shot past Marseille goalkeeper Mandanda to give Milan an unexpected lead. Milan's notoriously poor set piece defending cost them the equaliser but once again, in a second half dominated by the home side, Inzaghi came to the rescue when he pulled away from a defender to stab home another fantastic Seedorf pass, European goal #68.

Flamini should have been sent off for a disgraceful two footed jumping foul on Mbia. I would expect a two game ban unless UEFA have suddenly gone cold on video evidence.

Attendance : 59,000
Assists : Seedorf, Cheyrou (fk), Seedorf
CHELSEA 1 (Anelka 48)
WOLFSBURG 3 (Grafite 36, Grafite 41 Pen, Grafite 87)
CSKA MOSCOW 1 (Dzagoev 76)

Josue sent Grafite away on the counter to open the scoring for the German champions. The Russian's were dealt a hammer blow just before half time when Grafite dived to win a penalty. Guilherme's pass breeched the square Wolfsburg defence and 19 year old Dzagoev ran clear before finishing with a confident right foot shot. Grafite used his considerable bulk to hold off a defender and turn in the box to complete a debut Champions League hat-trick.
Attendance : 25,017
